1. Trace an unfinished wooden plate (from crafts store) on paper and
    plan design. Draw hearts, stars, gingerbread men or whatever design you
    like. Or use purchased stencils. Include a short message for Santa Claus
    and child's name. 
2. Paint designs directly on wood or paint plate first with 2 coats acrylic paint. Let dry. 
3. Cut any stencils from cardboard or stencil paper. Apply color with paintbrushes, 
    sponges or Uni oil-based paint pens. Use pens or stencils for lettering. 
4. When dry, apply a clear, waterbase finish.
